17 hearts… 45 minutes… 30 meters… 279 kilos…
The JRR Tolkien 4th yr students of HEDCen had an environmental clean-up race last Wednesday, November 27, 2013. Cleaning up the river has perhaps become a routine, almost weekly task for them. This session however had an exciting twist in that the students were engaged in a friendly competition to see which group would be able to collect the most trash.
The photos have been archived in the TRCP Facebook page (follow this link).
The groups (which also corresponded to the year-round “houses” reminiscent of Harry Potter) were able to collect a total of 279 kilos of trash from just a 30-meter stretch of river and for only 45 minutes of clean-up time.

Menti capaci with 93 kilos of trash. (Standing from left) John Sung, Liam Torres, Ige Domingo, Sarah Kim (Prefect for November); (Seated from left) Miggy Gemzon, Ria Garcia, and Nicole Salvador.
Ascendio with 122 kilos of trash. (From left) Aira Dy Guaso, Ice Cedro, Paula Capanas, Marc Eviota, Nikko Nackaerts, and Edward De Leon (Prefect for November).
Cheers to House Ascendio for winning the Tungtong River clean-up race!
P.S. Here’s the river segment we worked on: (pardon the video quality- if you are prone to motion sickness, do not watch)
